Final Verdict ?

The high profile BMW hit-and-run case has been doing the rounds of courts as well as media for the last 10 years. The judgment today proclaimed Sanjeev Nanda as guilty. The entire media has set off hailing the verdict as the starting point where influential people are being held below justice, and not above it.

Does it really matters so much ? Whats the final verdict from this case ? Is the judgment worthwhile - given the fact that "influence" has been able to delay this simple open-and-shut case for 10 years. Is the judiciary short on evidence ? What about this aspect of the case. Isn't the court aware that every possible attempt has been made to twist the facts / witnesses of this case ?

Few eminent people who understand the law more than I do have come up with suggestions of a 10-year prison sentence for Sanjeev. There are 3 others listed as co-accused in the judgment. But what about Sanjeev's father ? His grandfather - an ex-Naval chief ? Lawyer R K Anand ? Is there one reason why these "influences" should not be held guilty in this case ?

Is the judiciary short sighted to just look at Sanjeev Nanda all through this case ? What about this statement from one of family members of constable Peru Lal. Should this not serve as an eye opener for the judiciary to take a look of "conscience" at what it has done towards its responsibilities.

My vote for a "true" life imprisonment to Sanjeev Nanda. And let the "influences" pay Rs 50 Lakhs to the families of each one who lost his or her life. Its well within their means. Its well within the limits of "fair justice".

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://myvotemycountry.blogspot.com/2008/09/whats-point-final-verdict.html' title='Whats the point ? In their own words -

"VoteIndia.in is not a sudden idea, it is a process that has developed gradually in the minds of ordinary citizens who are baffled by the problems our country is facing today, such as unemployment, illiteracy, social injustice, health care, corruption, caste war and so on—the list is endless. We are ordinary Indian citizens who feel dismayed by the politics our country is currently witnessing."

Undoubtedly, the ordinary citizen of this country has to show some sense of responsibility towards owning the state of affairs that we are in right now, and also own a part of the social ethic towards moving the country into the right direction. The least that we can do is to support an initiative like VoteIndia - simply exercise your vote to right. Be it the local MLA or the MP - your vote has to count. If you did not do whatever little is needed to chose the representative, then you certainly have no right to question that person's conduct.

Here is a serious request for all people reading this post - do make sure that you are connected to the VoteIndia initiative.
